I love Launceston because it has lots of cool scenery and critters to photograph. Katie and I were walking and came across these three animals in a very short amount of time. The short-beaked echidna is plentiful in Tassie (this one was fairly small & shy). The green & gold frog (or growling grass frog) is apparently really rare in Tassie, but we found a place along the Tamar Island board-walk where they like to sun-bake and there was about eight that day as big as my middle finger. I am not sure which type of yabby it is that we found so any comments about that would be great, I sent the photo to inland fisheries to ask them for help categorising it so hopefully they will be able to.
I’m looking forward to this summer, because I’m hoping we can photograph lots of wildlife this year. I will try and post some photos up if I remember.

Rad photos!
I got word back from a professor at Inland Fisheries, who said that the yabby is an “engaeus” and probably “engaeus mairener” – a burrowing crayfish. If you ever find any be sure to have a look and leave them as you found them. These ones weren’t protected or pests, just beautiful little creatures but they still need looking after.
