The Hitch-hiker

On Saturday I went to my school reunion and when I got home I found that somewhere in my travels I’d picked up a hitch-hiker and still don’t have the froggiest idea how he came to be in my car.

As you may know if you read this blog I have encountered various frogs as I venture around on my days off. I have found some rare ones (photos) and some very tiny ones (photos) but never have I imagined one this big and beautiful living in the wild. In fact, he was so big and lovely it was impossible to capture his awesomeness on my mobile phone camera and these photos do not do him justice.

My family wondered if he was from somewhere else, like another state, but when I enquired with a park ranger they told me he was a green tree frog common in the Wynyard area, but that his size was unusual. We enjoyed each others company for a while and he was quite friendly and affectionate, enjoying scratches under his chin and pats on the head. He was then returned to the wild away from cats and people.

Paint

The child snowed in by winters malice
Is free to explore tropical jungles,
Beach,
Space,
Moons
From the comfort of their room.
Unhindered
And
Not limited
By adulterated
Over-rated
Maturity
The child sits for a while
Thinking with a smile,
And then she thrives
As she lets her mind run wild.

The coincidence

The incident was no coincidence
But a necessary lesson to pause,
To stop and consider his flaws-
The things that need to change
Be rearranged
Or left the same.

In the future years
He learned not to worry about perfection
Or gaining affection,
And to just focus on the pause.

The incident taught him to pray,
Not the words to say
But an honest way,
And the incident taught him to live
And the incident taught him to love.
What a blessing
That his unfortunate “coincidence” was
Another lesson from above.

The Trust Nuts

He came up trumps in the end-
The sleepless nights and sudden frights
Became scaled heights and hailed delights
With diminishing returns
And exoneration of the stupid kind.

They hated his energy
But loved it when he used it
(Abused it for the popular cause)
Despite his flaws he came up trumps
And found his place.

There is a lot to lie to rest now-
Thoughts of melodic, hypnotic, cryptic logic…
Dreams of obscene, forbidden hidden wealth…
Talks of strangely changing dangers
In a range of thrilling foods
Killing dudes in silly moods…’
But what remains from scaled heights
Is he and you
And your different points of view
And then a third one which is true.
